Playing for a conference championship is just one the goals each and every hight school football team sets at the beginning of the football season. Not every team gets the opportunity to put a check mark next to that goal. Friday night, the Nashville Hornets and the Carterville Lions can mark that task as completed.
In a matchup of two 4-1 teams, the Carterville Lions are on the road at Nashville to face the Hornets.
The Hornets come in to the SIRR conference matchup with a 4-1 record over all. Nashville's one loss came in week two when they were beat by Freeburg 26-21. The Hornets have been on a roll since that loss averaging 47.6 points per game and only allowing 10 ppg in the last three weeks.
Carterville enters the game with an identical 4-1 record. After a season opening loss on the road a Benton, the Lions have rattled off four consecutive wins. The Lions enter Friday nights game average over 29 points per game and have allowed an average of 18 ppg.
Regardless of who wins on Friday, the winner will take control of the Mississippi side of the SIRR conference. The Hornets still have two more conference games remaining after this week, Pinckneyville in week seven and the DuQuoin Indians in week eight.
The Lions on the other hand only have one more conference game. That will be on October 15th, when the Lions host the Pinckneyville Panthers. The Lions will have the Madison Trojans next Friday in non-conference play.
None of the "future" games mean anything this week. This is the only game that matters. The winner does in fact take control of the conference.
Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the game. Mr. Scott Hudson (heavy on the Mister), will have the play call on NewsRadio WJPF (AM 1340/99.5 FM) starting with the pre-game show at approximately 6:45 PM.
Also, just a reminder that we will not have the Youtube live stream this week as well.
Let's go Lions! Bring home the win!
