The Carterville Lions opened the 2024 IHSA basketball season with a solid 68-38 win over the Waterloo Gibault Hawks this past Saturday night in the Trico Invitational.
The Lions have finished second in this Trico tourney the last two years. The Murphysboro Red Devils finished first in 2022 and the Red Bud Muskateers beat the Lions last year to finish first.
Coach Shane Hawkins and the Lions will play three games this week at Trico starting Wednesday night when they face the Steeleville Warriors at 7:45 PM.
In the win Saturday night, the Lions utilized a strong defensive start to lock down the Hawks and hold them to just thirty-eight points in the victory. Offensively, the Lions had eight players in the scorebook.
Parker Poole and Kaden Wilson eached finished with 13 points. Also scoring:
Colton Hawkins - 9
Jaden Wilson - 9
Alex Kimbrough - 7
Logan Ingle - 7
Zach Snow - 6
Maddux Gulley - 4
