In what looks to be the marquee matchup in Week 2 of the high school football season, the Carterville Lions will host the Nashville Hornets in SIRR Conference play on Saturday.
Both teams are coming off of shut-out wins a week ago, as the Hornet blasted Sparta 64-0 and the Lions thumped Anna-Jonesboro 43-0.
The last time these teams met back in 2019, Nashville came away with a three point win 41-38.
Carterville played strong from the opening kickoff all the way to the end of the game last week against AJ. Preston Sumner was impressive rushing for 138 yards on 11 carries and three touch downs. Senior QB Eli Downen rushed for 97 yards and threw for 103 yards and two td's. Carterville defense played outstanding the entire game especially in the first half, holding AJ to just 58 yards.
This should be a great game between two impressive teams. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM at Lions Field. It is homecoming weekend for the Lions, as this will be the last home football game of the season.
Scott Hudson and I will have the call on NewsRadio WJPF 1340AM/99.5 FM starting with the pre-game show at 12:45 PM. You can also watch the livestream with the play-by-play call here:
